Volunteers Give a Little, Get a Lot

By Jo Carol Gau, Senior Manager, BMC Software, Inc.

“The more you give, the more you get.” This adage is especially true when it comes to volunteering for STC. Even in small amounts, volunteering helps strengthen our chapter, our profession, and our standing in the business community.

Every month, we will use this space to recognize our volunteers. This month, we are recognizing all volunteers since Cindy Pao's reign began.

Our hard-working summer volunteers planned an exciting 2004–2005 year. They included Lisa Alvarado, Luette Arrowsmith, Cathy Bettoney, Pat Bishop, Melanie Boston, Linda Branam, Jewel Darby, Jamie Diamandopoulos, Mary Gwynne, Tanya Handy, Jim Hunt, Linda King, Ann Liggio, Angela Livingston, Deborah Long, Paul Mueller, Scott Parker, David Remson, John Reynolds, Jennifer Ruyle, Kim Shaw, Deborah Silvi, George Slaughter, Jennifer Smith, Rebecca Taylor, Monica Waddell, Rob Weaver, Jocelyn Williams, and Nicole Wycislo.

September was another busy month and got the year off to the right start. Also, four members participated in the PBS Channel 8 fundraiser. STC Houston has a long history of support for Channel 8, thanks to Ann Liggio. Our September volunteers included Lori Buffum, Jewel Darby, Jessica Dickerson, Melanie Flanders, Gary Foster, Erika Frensley, Judie Guy, Albert Hreha, Jim Hunt, Danell Landes, John Reynolds, Steve Shriver, and John Turner.

Finally, in October, the year was well underway and in very good hands. With competitions on the horizon, many members were hard at work to strengthen the organization and make Houston one of the highest achieving chapters in STC. Our October volunteers included Lisa Alvarado, Luette Arrowsmith, Cathy Bettoney, Pat Bishop, Melanie Boston, Linda Branam, Jewel Darby, Jamie Diamandopoulos, Jessica Dickerson, Mary Gwynne, Brenda Huettner, Jim Hunt, Linda King, Angela Livingston, Deborah Long, Cindy Pao, David Remson, John Reynolds, Deborah Silvi, George Slaughter, Jennifer Smith, Jeff Staples, Rebecca Taylor, John Turner, Monica Waddell, Yvonne Wade Sanchez, Jocelyn Williams, and Nicole Wycislo.

You might notice a trend as some of the same names are seen month after month. Seriously, it doesn't have to take much time, but any amount of effort is much appreciated. Also, you won't always see the names of our officers and administrative council in this space, but rest assured, they are also hard at work to bring you the best STC that they can. Thanks, everyone, for all that you do for us!
